Basketball Sports Gambling Strategy by SportsGambling4Fun.com
by admin on November 30th, 2007
>
Basketball sports’ gambling is a game of skill and relies on a great deal of strategy, which must be used in order to win. The challenge is to gather and analyze as much information as you can about a game, weigh the probabilities of each team winning, and subsequently compare your opinion to the odds makers. Make the right judgment and you win. To keep the sports gambling simple and fun I am only going to cover straight bets. When gambling on a basketball game, there are two ways to place a straight bet within that same game. You can either bet the line also known to as the side, or how many points will be scored in the basketball game also known as the total. The Straight Bet is betting in its most basic form, which allows you to bet at given odds, upon a winner. The Point Spread can bet on one of two selections that have been equated through the allocation of suitable points. In the Point Spread the number of allocated points are shown with a + sign for the favorable side and a - sign for the underdog. In order that the better wins, the favored team must win by more than the Point Spread. On the flip side, if a bet has been placed on the underdog, that team has to lose by less than the Point Spread for the better to win.
Example: Detroit -8.0 Seattle 196
In this example, Seattle is the favored team to win the basketball game by at least 8 points. The underdog team is Detroit, where the listed total for the contest is placed at 196. If you take a straight bet on Seattle, you are betting that Seattle will win by at least by 8 points. Conversely, if you bet on Detroit, you are betting that even if they do not win the game, Seattle will not win by as many as 8.0 points. Say the final score was:
Seattle 100 Detroit 98 ?
If you bet on Seattle, you would have lost, because they did not win by at least 8 points. All of these sports gambling sites offer some sort of bonus for you to do your betting online with them. They are not the outrageous bonuses that you may hear about, but are adequate to start you out. You have to be careful about sportsbooks that offer the unbelievable bonus deals because they may not be able to stay around for the long haul. In most of the sports gambling sites, if you wagered $100 on Seattle, your loss would be $100. On the other hand, if you wagered on Detroit, you would have risked the same $110 to win $100. In other words you are laying 11 to win 10. The odds in the sportsbooks are listed in this manner: 10/11. The left-hand side of the backslash is what you stand to win and the right-hand side is the number you risk losing.
In this basketball game, there was a total of 198 points scored. This exceeded the total of 196 that was predicted by the lines makers, so the game went Over. If less than 196 combined points was scored in the game, the game will have gone Under. On total points at most sportsbooks, once again, the odds are 11/10.
The loser pays more than the sportsbook pays to the winner is the net profit that the sportsbook would make. This is called the juice. When looking for a sports gambling site you should look for a small juice. A line movement in any direction indicates which team that the people are betting more on. Sports gambling sites will move the line in either direction to try and entice a bettor to bet on the side that is needed to even out the amount wagered on both sides of the game. This is way the sportsbook makes its money on the juice and do not let movements in the line influence your betting. You do not want to place your wagers with a sportsbook that does not move its line, because you would then be dealing with a sportsbook that is gambling and that is poor money management by that sportsbook. The sports gambling sites at SportsGambling4Fun.com are some of the best sports gambling sites to place a basketball bet with.

Professional Basketball History
by admin on November 30th, 2007
>
The first official basketball history would be at YMCA in Trenton, New Jersey, in 1896. It was the fallout of a dispute between members of the YMCA team and a YMCA official, resulting in a professional team, playing for money. 2 years later, the National Basketball League was founded.
In the 2oth century, the top professional teams were the Buffalo Germans and the Original Celtics. The first major national professional league was the American Basketball League.
In the 30s, the most successful teams were the New York Renaissance and Harlem Globetrotters. Both of these teams consisted of all-black players.
In the 40s, the game was monopolized by the Minneapolis Lakers, led by George Mikan and coached by John Kundla. This team won 5 NBA championships in the decade.
Come the 50s, guard Bob Cousy and forward Bob Pettit were celebrated players. From 1957 to 1969, The Celtics won 11 NBA titles, 6 of them led by Bill Russell.
From 1963 to 1975, the UCLA team won ten national championships. Star players during this period were center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, center Bill Walton, guard Gail Goodrich, forward Jamaal Wilkes, and forward Marques Johnson. Abdul-Jabbar made history by becoming the leading scorer with 38,387 points in his career.
In the 80s, basketball was dominated by the Detroit Pistons with Isiah Thomas and Dennis Rodman.
And most recently, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls are the highlights of the 90s, with the Bulls winning 6 NBA titles. Star players in this period were Hakeem Olajuwon, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Karl Malone, John Stockton, and Shaquille O’Neal. And the women star players were Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes, Teresa Edwards, Lisa Leslie, and Jennifer Azzi.
Women basketball has also undergone some changes throughout the years. In 1966, dribbling was legalized in play. 3 years later, a 5-player full court format was introduced. In 1984, women officials (coaches, players) were admitted in the basketball hall-of-fame. Some of these famous women who obtained recognition for their skills and expertise were Ann Meyers, Carol Blazejowski, Cheryl Miller; Anne Donovan and Nancy Lieberman-Cline.
The NBA’s rival was the American Basketball Association (ABA) and its trademark red, white, and blue basketballs. The best player for ABA was Julius Erving. ABA was dissolved in 1976.
The passing of years have seen the rise and fall of many teams and players. Without a doubt, all the players strive to do their best to be immortalized as the champions of the decade.

Six Keys to Success for Basketball Players
by admin on November 30th, 2007
>
I’m often asked this question: what are the keys to becoming a great basketball player? I give them a two-word response: hard work. All joking aside though, hard work is a key component of success in basketball (or any other area of life for that matter). But a more detailed, useful answer is really in order. I have broken down success as a basketball player into 6 broad categories: 1. Basketball skill 2. Physical ability 3. Confidence 4. Aggressiveness 5. Thinking big 6. Being in the moment Let me go into detail on each of these items. Basketball Skill First and foremost, you have to be able to play the game. From shooting, to dribbling and passing, to rebounding and defense, you’ve got to know the game, and be a good player. This is, it goes without saying, the foundation on which every successful basketball career is built. Physical Ability In addition to being able to play the game, great players are usually exceptional athletes. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to be the fastest, strongest, highest jumping player on the team. But it does mean that you have to be very mobile, very agile, have good hand-eye coordination, and have good endurance (among other things). Being a good all-around athlete allows your basketball skills to flourish and grow. Confidence Having basketball ability and physical skills takes you only so far. Taking your game to the next level requires massive confidence, the belief in yourself that you can go out on the floor and dominate, each and every game. Look at the great players (Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kobe, et al)…these guys think one thing when they play: that they are the best player on the floor, and they are going to dominate the opponent. Aggressiveness In addition to believing in yourself, you have to be extremely aggressive every time play the game. You may be a nice, quiet person off the court, but once you put on a uniform and get into a game, you have to be fierce and determined, passionate and competitive. Thinking Big I coach a lot of players that doubt themselves and what they can do on the floor. Get rid of that kind of thinking. Don’t be satisfied with what you were able to do last season, or last month, or yesterday. Set high goals for yourself, and think big…and you’ll be amazed at how you are able to achieve more than you did before, just by picturing yourself playing better than you did in the past (picturing it, and expecting it). For example: if you scored 10 or 12 points a game last season, plan on increasing that by at least 2 or 3 baskets a game. If you grabbed 4 or 5 rebounds a game, plan on upping that number to 6 or 7. Now, remember that scoring more points doesn’t necessarily mean you are playing better than before, but you get the idea. The point is to expect more of yourself, set higher goals for yourself, and set firmly in your mind the belief that you will play better than you have in the past. Believe it, and it’ll happen. Being in the Moment Lots of players over-think the game. Whether it’s psyching yourself out at the free throw line, letting a bad play compound itself and negatively impact the next play, or being hesitant to take the ball to the basket for fear of getting blocked, you can’t allow these types of negative thoughts, or over-thinking to keep you from playing at your best. The key is to be in the moment, be in the flow of the action, and let your physical abilities, and all the practice you’ve done take over. Don’t think or worry, just play. These are the 6 main areas of success in basketball. Think through each of these, and really figure out a way that you can get better in each one. What can you do today, tomorrow, or next week that will help you improve in these areas? Come up with some answers…then go out and make it happen!

Who Does Ron Artest Think He Is Without Basketball?
by admin on November 30th, 2007
You have to hand it to Ron Artest. This guy really just gets under the skins of many NBA fans. Mr. Artest, exactly who do you think you were prior to your basketball career and when you throw it all away, exactly who do you think you?ll be after basketball? It?s time to grow up and make your fans, what few of them you have left, proud again. Don?t you think?
He?s graced the covers of some of the biggest magazines on the newsstands today. Don?t you know that the executives of Penthouse, Sports Illustrated and GQ all sold large amounts of magazines just because Artest doesn?t know how to behave? When you think about it, it really is disturbing, especially when you visit his website. He boasts about providing the funds for 6 college scholarships and naturally, he is very active with children through his charities, summer camps and general love for children. And why wouldn?t he love children? He certainly can relate to them, right down to the temper tantrums.
In the day where celebrities act like drunkards strung out on drugs in night clubs while divorcing their parents, the general public should demand more from athletes and frankly so should the commissioners who slap them on the wrists with a fat fine and send them to the bench. As commissioner David Stern sternly impressed upon the media in 2004 after the infamous Artest incident, ?The line is drawn,? Stern said as he referred to the suspension of players for the Indiana Pacers after Artest fought his way into a suspension which carried some of the heaviest of fines. Yes, David, the line was drawn and the chaos has continued but don?t feel too bad, it?s the norm among professional sports.
In fact, professionals are making such a name for themselves acting out with little self-control that even the college players are getting in on the act. This year in College Football, baby Vick really made his big brother proud when he stomped the leg of another player. He didn?t learn this behavior from big brother but he may be under the false assumption that bad behavior is a special prerequisite for making ?a go of being a pro?. And we won?t talk about the asinine behavior of T.O. By the way, is he still around?
To add insult to injury, its people like Artest that REALLY needed the break that the NBA gave not only him but his entire family. Artest, now too big for himself has all but forgotten his most humble beginnings. He grew up with two brothers and six sisters, and from his own accounts in his auto-biography on his website, he tells of living in the projects of New York City. Less than seven years ago, he was drafted by the Bulls and a few short years later signed a multi-million dollar deal for a basketball lifestyle brand and gained the kind of money most only dream about. And yes, Artest, considering you started out in the projects, this NBA stuff has been fairly lucrative for you, wouldn?t you agree?
Still, in 2004, Artest commanded $6,158,000.00 in salary, but because he apparently has lost the need for money, he lost over 4.9 million because of suspensions. And true, he probably doesn?t need the money now but some other well deserving athlete did. Someone who would have been glad to sign autographs, shake hands, smile and do what they are paid to do which is play ball and please crowds.
What?s more, when professional players, like Artest, get by with a bad attitude once, they continue to revel in it. For instance, way before Ron Artest became a notorious bad guy, he had another scuffle. Two years prior to his fight on the courts with NBA fans, he grabbed a camera from a television station?s crew and destroyed it after a defeat to the Knicks.
Recently, his tantrum hurt only his own plans when he decided he wanted to go to Sacramento and then he didn?t want to go, and then he did and then he didn?t. In fact, Artest did go because he was made to go, just like a child is made to do something. Here?s an innovative idea for the powers that be in professional sports, if you are going to hire oversized kids to play in an adult game, why not send them to a behavioral psychologist before turning them loose on the general public?
On his website Artest says of his time with one of his teams, ?At times I felt like I had to lead more?like Michael Jordan.? Well darling, I can tell you, you are no Michael Jordan. No, Michael Jordan knew how to act like a gentleman and he knew how fortunate he was. Michael Jordan appreciated what the NBA delivered to him and his family and he never disrespected his game. I really wish Ron Artest, given your talent, were a little more like Mike. And I?m sure your fans do too.
Sadly, I was a huge Ron Artest fan and I cheered him on from my home computer and television. However, with his attitude and the mounting chips on his shoulder, I fear he is at the beginning of the end of his career. However, the housing projects of Sacramento will welcome him back to his similar humble beginnings should he decide to stay there when basketball is no longer an option.

3 Little Known Tips of Basketball Hoop Shopping
by admin on November 30th, 2007
>
I’ve got a confession to make. I play basketball. I play it very poorly and can’t make very many of the shots that I shoot at the basketball hoop. I have a feeling that I am not alone in the world at being a rather poor basketball player. However, one thing that I’m not bad at is comparison shopping. I’ve mastered the ancient art of comparing prices between merchants and can usually ferret out a fairly good deal with a little bit of leg work. Basketball hoops are no different than other items when it comes to shopping for them. There are some tips you should know before embarking on your journey to shop for a basketball hoop.
1)New or Used. You really might consider buying a used basketball hoop if you are interested in value. However, make sure you are buying one that hasn’t been banged up too bad. Years of basketball practice can only make your rim bent and dirty. Ebay can be a great place to buy used equipment and basketball hoops are regularly for sale on Ebay.
2)Do your homework by comparing different merchant offers on different search engines and different websites. Just because something is advertised for sale on Google doesn’t mean its also advertised for sale on Yahoo. Some merchants advertise their good strictly through the Amazon partners program and don’t do any other advertising anywhere else. Price vary drastically and the only way you will know that you are getting a good deal is to examine what the different people are selling the same goods for on different websites. Basketball hoops are no exception.
3)Learn about the different types and styles of basketball hoops. Without the knowledge of what you are buying, points #1 and #2 are nearly worthless. Buy your hoop the right way and get a great deal on one by being an informed consumer. Learn how to buy a basketball hoop and you can guarantee that you got a better deal than everyone else.

The Road to the Hardwood: The Making of Professional Basketball
by admin on November 29th, 2007
>
Imagine the game of basketball without the slam dunk showcase, celebrity players and flashy entertainment value we’ve come to expect. That’s how the game began in 1891, New England. Two teams, two peach baskets and 13 rules.
James Naismith, a physical education teacher at the School for Christian Workers in Springfield, Massachusetts created an indoor game to “provide an athletic distraction for a rowdy class, through brutal New England winters,” and is to this day, credited for creating the game of basketball.
Naismith asked the janitor to find two boxes to fasten to the balcony railings at either end of the gymnasium, but all the janitor could find were two peach baskets. In the original 13 rules, the ball, made of leather panels stitched together with a rubber bladder inside, could be batted but not dribbled because players could not move with the ball.
In 1896, as a result of a dispute between a YMCA official and YMCA members, in Trenton, NJ, a professional team was formed to play for money. Two years later a group of New Jersey newspaper sports editors founded the National Basketball League, consisting of six franchises from Pennsylvania and New Jersey. During this time, the Buffalo Germans and the original Celtics were standout teams in the league. The Germans won 111 straight games between 1908 and 1911, and the Celtics pioneered many of the game’s tactics that are still used today, such as zone defense.
The American Basketball League (ABL) was the first successful professional league, running from1925 to 1931. Teams made up of all black players, like the New York Renaissance and the Harlem Globetrotters, dominated the league in the 1930’s. By the mid 1930’s another professional league called the National Basketball League, which had taken its name from the earlier league that had folded a few years earlier, started to make a name for itself. In 1946, a group of executives got together to form another league called the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which ended up persuading most of the teams from the NBL to join them. By the 1949- 1950 season the remaining six teams in the NBL moved to the BAA, forming three divisions, and renaming themselves the National Basketball Association (NBA). Following that season, the NBA reduced its size and established two divisions- the beginning of the eastern and western conferences, which were later established in the 1969- 1970 season.
Red Auerbach’s Celtics from Boston were the team to beat from 1957 to 1969, when they dominated the league, winning 11 NBA titles. In 1967, the ABA was formed and became known for its flashy playing style. Julius Irving, known affectionately as Dr. J is one of the most well known players whose career began in the ABA, before moving to the NBA for a notable and successful career on the court.
By the 1970’s, basketball had hit a low point. The ABA disbanded in 1976, and NBA ticket sales were down. The game was viewed as dull, and revenue declined, while TV ratings bottoming out at a record low. But, two young collegiate players were causing a stir in the mid-west in 1979. Larry Bird of Indiana University and Magic Johnson from Michigan State faced off against each other in a NCAA battle that sent both players to a visible place in the NBA, and generated some much needed attention on a game that was potentially dying.
College basketball was the focus of the 1980’s, and the 90’s were all about Mike. Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls mastered 6 NBA championships from 1991 to 1993, and 1996 to 1998. Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippin and Karl Malone all made waves in the NBA during the 90’s and interest in the game hit an all-time high.
Salary caps and other issues forced a player lockout during the 1997-98 season, canceling all league play until an agreement was reached in 1999. Now, athletes are celebrities on and off the court. They are icons in pop culture whose style and finesse on and off the court is replicated and in some cases available for sale. NBA players sported Mitchell & Ness vintage throwback jerseys of past court royalty like Chamberlain, Bird and Johnson off the hardwood. Mitchell & Ness now features over 1600 players including more recent greats like Kobe Bryant, Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal.
From peach baskets to pop- culture, the game of basketball has taken fans on a roller coaster of ups and downs from the beginning and will certainly hold our interest as it continues to change in the future.

The Origins of Basketball.
by admin on November 29th, 2007
The origins of the game of basketball can be traced back to a gentleman by the name of Dr. James Naismith. In 1861, Naismith was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. During his early school days, Naismith would play a game called duck on a rock whereby the child would endeavor to knock the duck off the top of the rock with a toss of another rock.
Later on, Naismith would go on to McGill University in Montreal and would later become McGill Universitys Athletic Director. He would subsequently move on to YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts and in 1891, the game of basketball began.
Given the cold Massachusetts winters, Naismith needed to find a recreational activity that could be played indoors and he preferred a sport that would develop skill and one that was not exclusively relying on strength. The first game was played with two peach baskets for goals and a soccer ball.
Further to his credit, Naismith became a medical doctor specializing in sports physiology and a Presbyterian minister. Naismith was able to see his beloved sport of basketball, gain acceptance in numerous countries through the YMCA since 1893. As well, the sport of basketball was brought forth at the Berlin Olympics in 1936. As we speak, the game of basketball has become a very popular sport.

Top College Basketball Arenas
by admin on November 28th, 2007
If you?re a fan of college basketball then these are the courts that are said to be the best of best to watch a game in. Between the skills the seating and the concessions there?s no better place to see a game then these courts.
In first is Kansas? Allen Fieldhouse. Built in 1955 it gets 16,300 fans surprisingly close to the action and makes your eardrums feel on the verge of popping. This place has a charm to it that you just can?t find in many arenas. Composed of almost all bleachers fans can populate this building with ease. It was ahead of its time with the bleachers in the corners angled in toward the court and three concourses that spread out the crowd to relieve pedestrian congestion.
Minnesota?s Williams Arena comes in second. Built in 1928 it?s historic and charming. With a raised playing floor, the first row of fans look at the players at about knee level. They also did a good job of honoring their history by having large banners hanging in the arena of past Gopher greats. The concessions won?t put a strain on you?re wallet either. This arena can hold about 14, 395 for basketball.
Butler?s Hinkle Fieldhouse is another one built in 1928. Try to catch an afternoon game when the sun is shinning in from the windows at the top of the arena as if the heavens are watching the game too. If it doesn?t send chills down your back, you are not a genuine hoops fan. The Fieldhouse can house about 11,000 for basketball.
The historic Palestra home court for Penn comes in fourth. It was built in 1927 and seats 8700 for basketball. It is loud and when you walk around the outer concourse, you get a real sense of the history of this sacred basketball building. There are pictures of many of the past greats from the Big 5 who played there hanging on the wall and in display cases.
Finally, Duke?s Cameron Indoor Stadium ranks fifth. The student crowd, known as the ?Cameron Crazies?, are mind blowing with their well-embedded actions and chants for all 60 minutes of the game. A forceful half-time show gets everyone pumped as well. Fans have to squeeze in here a little more than they would like, but the history is great from the architecture of the building to the numerous displays documenting the past. The stadium seats 9,314 screaming fans.
